Remutaka Road Action Group

A new modern highway connecting the Wairarapa with Wellington and the World

Meet Our Team

We are a network of Kiwis who believe effective and efficient road transport is essential for the social, economic, and physical well-being of all New Zealanders. The Remutaka Road Action Group is an independent organisation with the sole purpose of promoting the construction of a new highway between Wairarapa and the Hutt Valley.

Although some team members are actively involved in political parties and motoring organisations, the Remutaka Road Action Group is independent of those, or any other organisation.

Simon Casey

Simon moved to the Wairarapa with his wife Nicky nearly 3 years ago after selling his Wellington based business. Prior to moving, he was a regular visitor to the Wairarapa being involved with the gliding club.

Simon stood as the candidate for ACT in the Wairarapa and identified two key issues holding back the Wairarapa. One was the need for community water storage, the other was the inadequate roading link between Wellington and the Wairarapa that is the Remutaka Road.

Simon believes that a reliable, safe and efficient transport link is vital for the economic future of the Wairarapa. So instead of waiting for bureaucracy, he decided to form the Remutaka Road Action Group to get it recognised as a Road of National Significance. Only then will we see any improvement of that route.

Craig Bowyer

Craig Bowyer is a Masterton District Councilor, New Zealand Automobile Association National Councilor with a background in business and farming with a focus on financial performance and goal setting.

Craig firmly believes substantial improvements to the Remutaka Hill road will enable better resilience to our key transport links.

Infrastructure is the main driver in improving productivity and efficiency in the Wairarapa and wider region.

Kevin Cudby

Kevin Cudby is an engineering journalist and manufacturing engineer with a background in the design, manufacture, and marketing of advanced radio systems. He firmly believes that per-capita economic growth is vital to solving New Zealand's social, environmental, economic, and climate problems.

According to Kevin:
"A high-quality Remutaka Highway will give everyone in the Wairarapa, Southern Hawkes Bay, Hutt Valley, and Wellington a fair go at enjoying the benefits of New Zealand's economic development."

Geoff Copps

Geoff has been a presence in the Economic and Business Development arena in the Lower North Island since 1990, when he joined Masterton Business Enterprise working with the Masterton Mayor at the time.

Over the last 30 years, he has worked with businesses in most sectors of the economy with a specific focus on the manufacturing and primary sector value chain from design to production and distribution services to being delivered to customers anywhere in the world.

“There is no doubt that regions that are prosperous and resilient are well connected. It is also true that the development of tools to foster digital connections makes connecting easy but for places like Wairarapa who are predominantly producers of physical products, physical links are still vital and this includes roading."
