"the Remutaka Road needs to be included in the Government’s list of Roads of Regional Significance for the following reasons: 1. I have family and friends who will not drive over to visit with me as they feel unsafe driving over the hill 2. Every time we drive over to an appointment or a social occasion you have to leave early to allow for any mis-hap on the hill as you are trapped until its clear 3. The overnight closures put us under a curfew and make it impossible to go out to a dinner or a show in Wellington. 4. Its state highway two which makes it a national disgrace definitely puts us in the 3rd world status."
