I totally support a new route across, through or around the Remutaka's. It is very wearisome driving over this route and the road makes me car sick in spite of recent improvements. We need another route out of the Wairarapa and Wellington in case of earthquakes or slips. It is regionally important to have a road that is not windy, dangerous in high winds with substantial vertical drops close to road surface that could easily fail due to weather related events. I would say it is essential to the population of Wairarapa. It will open up more land and development opportunities outside of Wellington and make it easier for residents to access good quality healthcare in Wellington City.
